date

12 March 2012

This Saturday, March 10th, the New Symphonic Orchestra (NSO) marked its 20th anniversary of with a special Gala concert, conducted by Rossen Milanov at the Bulgaria music hall in Sofia.

The programme included works of Respighi, Mendelssohn and Mozart. The jubilee concert’s soloist was Lora Chekoratova, New York’s Juilliard School graduate and a bearer of a number of prizes from prestigious festivals.

The Gala concert is the first of a series of events, initiated by the orchestra to mark its anniversary and are all conducted under the patronage of Обединена българска банка. Throughout its 20-year-old existence the bank has endorsed itself and continues to impose as a leading patron of the Bulgarian music.

New Symphonic Orchestra and United Bulgarian bank decided to join efforts to give the young talents the chance to meet with their colleagues from across the country.

About New Symphonic Orchestra:
In 1991 Ms. Julia Hristova, then a music critic founds the New Symphonic Orchestra and the idea young musicians without any experience in playing with orchestra to improve their skills in this so called live school. Throughout these 20 years the orchestra welcomed over 800 musicians. Today NSO is still the only Bulgarian formation with a incessant concert life and is totally privately funded.
"Mode than 300 of those who have played for NSO, have unfortunately left Bulgaria. The good news is we have a number of talented young people that we currently work with ", Julia Hristova shares.
