More than 80 pupils took part in the 2012 National Children’s Rowing Regatta in Plovdiv

  • The National championship is held for a fourth consecutive year and is organized by the Bulgarian Rowing Federation and UBB AD
 
Today more than 80 pupils from various schools in Plovdiv took part in the first racing of the 2012 National Children’s Rowing Regatta, organized by the Bulgarian Rowing Federation and UBB AD. Girls and boys from 5th to 10th grade, separated into several age categories, tried their strengths at the rowing simulators (ergometers) competition that was held on the Rowing Channel in Plovdiv. The children study in the following schools: Knyaz Alexandar I Junior High School, Knyaginya Maria Louisa Home for Children Deprived of Parental Care, Sv. Paisii Hilendarski Comprehensive High School, Antoine de Saint-Exupery French Language School, Vocational High School of Electronics and Electrical Engineering, Vocational High School of Mechanical Engineering, Rada Kirkovich Home for Children Deprived of Parental Care, Vasil Levski Sports School.
 
The aim of the initiative is to provoke the children’s interest in sports and to encourage them towards active physical activity as well as help them form a habit for a healthy lifestyle. By supporting this event UBB AD has for yet another consecutive year declared its commitment to the young generation’s healthful development and upbringing.

The race winners had the honor of receiving their prizes awarded in person by legendary Bulgarian rowing and sports athletes – Mrs. Ginka Gyurova, a silver medalist at the Montreal Olympics and the Moscow Olympics, Secretary General of Plovdiv Sport Directorate, and Mrs. Lily Tomova, European champion in track-and-field athletics. Awards were also presented to the champions by Mrs. Maria Lazarova – UBB Regional Manager for Plovdiv and the region and Mr. Georgi Kyurkchiyski – Manager of UBB Business Center Plovdiv.
 
In the afternoon when the race was over the rowing simulators (ergometers) remained available to anyone who wished to measure their strength and physical abilities.
 
The program of the Y2012 National Children’s Rowing Regatta will continue with racings in another 4 Bulgarian towns:
 
    • Bourgas (17 May)

    • Rousse (19 May)

    • Pleven (22 May)

    • Sofia (2 June)

 

UBB AD’s support for the National Children’s Rowing Regatta is a part of the Bank’s global commitment to the Bulgarian Rowing Federation aimed at encouraging the development of sports and young sports talents in Bulgaria.
