Federico Garcia Lorca’s Yerma, staged by the Theater of Bulgarian Army’s company under the patronage of United Bulgarian Bank, marked the finale of the 18th edition of the Stage at Crossroads Festival. Accompanied by the thunderous applause of the Plovdiv audience, UBB closed the highlight event handing an honorary statuette to the play‘s director Diana Dobreva.
„UBB chose to be a patron of Yerma namely because of its pure emotional intensity and the authenticity about this very staging which easily wins the audience’s hearts. It was precisely that direct approach which impressed us and conditioned our emotional and logical decision to label it our favorite at the Stage at the Crossroads Festival”, Ms. Anka Kostova, UBB AD’s PR and Sponsorship Manager, announced during the closing ceremony.
The Bank, which is part of the festival’s sponsor community, handed its honorary statuette to Ms. Diana Dobreva, under whose direction Lorca’s immortal creation came to life.
„UBB’s support of the staged play and the festival is a reflection of our ambition to celebrate art in its purest form, to encourage creative drive and to assist in attracting even more theater fans“, Anka Kostova added, thanking also the lead actors Radina Kardzhilova and Vesselin Anchev for their impressive performance.
Yerma was the final event, offered by Stage at the Crossroads Festival, whose edition this year included presenting a number of productions of leading Bulgarian theaters, which managed to impress not only the audience, but also the critics over the past year. Through its partnership with the festival in Plovdiv UBB developed its line of corporate social responsibility in support of Bulgarian art and culture, which in Y2014 included successful projects, such as staging Boris Godunov outside Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the Opera at the Park festival, March Music Days, Varna Summer Theater Festival and Apollonia’s 30th Anniversary edition.
